Mixtape Review: Logic - Welcome To Forever

Recent Def Jam signee, Logic drops an impressive project perfect for music fans, including myself, that tumbled across his buzz from XXL. With this being the first mixtape I've heard from the Midwest lyricist, there  will be some past projects to look into. Welcome To Forever has a broad sound all the way down the tracklist. From motivational messages, life stories, and heavy beats this project is worth a listen. Read the full review after the jump.

The opening number is the title track and is a nice introduction to this 20-track mixtape. For those who never listened to Logic, this song explains a lot of his life up until this point and is an easy transition into the the next song "925". The song "Roll Call' is over Outkast's legendary "Ms. Jackson" instrumental. Even Logic questioned the choice of sound, but it has some sort of sentimental value that he couldn't resist hoping on the beat. Continuing with the up-beat tempo, "5AM" is a highlight track that's perfect for your nights out on the town or bendin' corners through your neighborhood. The vibe is very different, something that can only come from the Midwest. One of my favorite songs off this project is called the "The Come Up". Pretty much this is the track to boast and do his rapper talk. Produced by 6ix, the track display heavy wordplay that aligns very well with the snares and other drums. Continuing down the tracklist we hear another club-ready track called "Ballin" produced by Arthur McArthur, featuring Castro. A notable feature off this project is Dizzy Wright on the track "Young Jedi". Yet, another song produced by 6ix, adds a real young hip-hop feel, giving promise to what can come in the future. Overall this project is very well put together and shows why Def Jam picked up the young MC.  We give this project 4 out of 5 O's.
