SMO Review: OverDoz. - Boom

The West Coast music group OverDoz. recently added another eclectic project entitled Boom, to their creative musical resume. The mostly THC produced project is a fresh breathe of air, along with all the dopeness coming from the West. Read the full review after the jump.
From their visuals to artwork to sound, OverDoz. masters the art of bringing uniqueness to life. The 17-track free album showcases so many different sounds, but blends together well. With the opening number "Underground" featuring choice words from the legendary Pimp C and OverDoz. "mascot" Cream, sums up some of the emotions the group may be feeling. One thing that is established from the start of the project is energy. The energy brought about on every track grasps your attention and latches on sometimes. For example, the track "These Niggas" featuring the man behind the $100 album Nipsey Hussle, has a ton of energy which makes it easier for listeners to obtain messages being addressed. This album offers a ton of high-energy sounds early in the track list from "Destabil" to "Lauren London" to "F$WSAD" featuring Problem. Boom does take a turn midway through the track list and slows down just a tad. The track "Thinkin'" has a stronger feeling behind the lyrics rather than energy alone. The second half of the album helps balances the first half's energy effectively. With slower tracks like the Iman Omari produced "Babysteps" and Brooke D'leau produced "Last Love Song" give the album much more substance. Overall, Boom is an excellent body of work from the California artist. We highly recommend you give this album a listen to form your own opinion here.
