Mixtape Review: Yelawolf - Trunk Muzik Returns

Yelawolf returns to the mixtape scene to add a part two to his Trunk Muzik series. Adding futuristic beats and taking it back to his roots gives this project a very organic sound. Read the full review after the jump.

This project really sticks out, in my opinion, due to his futuristic sounds and sped up lyricism. Overshadowed by his criticism from past albums of trying be too mainstream, Yelawolf respomds very strong, holding his ground and taking it back to the origins. Sticking with his Slumerican team and having Supahotbeats behind the production made tracks like "Firestarter" and "Tennesse Love" sound timeless. This body of work sounds like it has deep feelings and emotion put into it. You hear a lot of reference to his recent label situation and how it affected him and inspired him. It clearly shows on the track called "Fame" that he loves his craft and doesn't plan to quit anytime soon. On top of dope beats Yela adds great features from Paul Wall on his track called "Hustle" and on a track called "Rhyme Room" with Raekwon and Killer Mike. Overall this project has music for the party and rave scene, but also has things to ride to on your way to a destination. We give this mixtape 3 and 1/2 O's.
